'A Note From The Newsletter Committee' Section

Fellow Chamber Members...

As always, this edition of The Messenger is packed with useful information and late-breaking community news.

Peruse your copy of our “e-Newsletter” to learn more about the McCarroll family and their Middle Country landmark, the Good Steer Restaurant, or to collect details about this month’s May 15 general membership meeting which will feature remarks by former Middle Country Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) president Kevin McCormack, the new executive director of the Middle Country Coalition for Smart Growth. In addition, Jeff Freund, the owner of an Allstate insurance agency in East Setauket, has made it easier to put your financial house in order by compiling a list of ten items that should be in everybody’s personal financial plan.

The value of this newsletter is limited only by what chamber members are willing to contribute to it each month. Just as our luncheon meetings and evening networking events provide us with opportunities to interact directly, The Messenger offers another means to reach the people you want to do business with in Centereach, Selden, or Lake Grove.

Dispatch news of your firm’s accomplishments, recent hires, or special events by e-mail to newsletter@MiddleCountryChamber.com each month. While space limitations make it impossible to guarantee that every announcement will be published, those that are used will be seen by some of our area’s most important business leaders; They just may be an ideal prospect group for the goods or the services your company sells.

It’s clear to all of us on the Newsletter Committee that The Messenger is being read, and used, so send your press release today. The deadline for submitting content for each upcoming e-Newsletter is the first of the month - for example, the deadline for submitting content for June’s edition is Friday, June 1st.

Sincerely,

Your Chamber Newsletter Committee

'Feature Article' Section
Jeff Freund, owner of Allstate Insurance Agency in East Setauket was April’s Member of the Month. Jeff gave an informational and invigorating presentation to chamber members reminding everyone to plan for the future and protect the things that are important. Here is a brief summary of what Jeff covered.

The Top 10 Financial Planning Items for Every Person to Review

By Jeff Freund

  1. Life Insurance
    a. Do you have the proper amount? (Have you used a “mathematical” calculation)
    b. Is it Affordable?
  2. Disability Insurance... Do you have any?... Have you taken advantage of group benefits at work (during your working years, your ability to earn income is your most valuable asset)
  3. Long Term Care Insurance (as you get older, you need to think about protecting your assets)
  4. Will – Do you have one, and has it been updated?
  5. Investing (the most important points to consider)
    a. Start (“pay yourself first”)
    b. Be consistent
    c. Proper allocation (make sure your investments are in alignment with your tolerance for risk, your age, and proximity to retirement)
  6. Homeowners Insurance
    a. Dwelling coverage...make certain you’re coverage is sufficient to replace your house in the event of a total loss
    b. Update your deductible (low enough for you to cover in the event of a loss…high enough for maximum savings)
  7. Auto Insurance
    a. Your liability limit should be updated, adequate
    b. Uninsured/underinsured motorist should be the same as your bodily injury limit
    c. Review coverage such as rental reimbursement, towing, and accident forgiveness before you have a claim
  8. Flood Insurance
    a. For most Long Islanders, very inexpensive, and NOT covered under your homeowners policy
  9. Personal Umbrella
    a. Excess liability coverage (typically “inexpensive” coverage dollar for dollar)
  10. Agent/Broker/Advisor... Who do you call when you have a question or an issue. Make certain you can expect the maximum effort when you need it the most.
